This listing is for an original, vintage set of graduated bells, produced by Bevin Brothers of East Hampton, Connecticut.  Bevin produced the bells used on Good Humor Ice Cream trucks back in the day.

We acquired this set a few years ago and were told at the time that they were used on one of the Good Humor trucks back in the 1960's.  Upon retiring the truck after an accident, the bells were removed and given to the driver.  He hung them just inside the door to his tool shed, where they hung for several decades.

This particular set has all the markings and details to indicate that they were used on one of the trucks.  The design, size, bell sequence, bracket configuration and the Bevin Bros. stamping are all correct.

The entire assembly measures roughly 13" long x 2 3/4" wide x 3" tall.  The bells are solid brass and have a nickel plating on them.  There are four graduated bells which measure 2 3/4", 2 5/8", 2 1/2" and 2 3/8" in diameter.  They are attached to a steel mounting bracket with holes on each end as well as one in the center/rear.  The holes on the ends provided for the bells to be mounted to a swivel assembly and the hole in the rear was used to attach the rope that the driver pulled to ring the bells as he drove his route.  The rear tab of the bracket is marked "Made By Bevin Bros, East Hampton Conn, USA."

The bells are vintage originals and as such, they do have the typical wear and defects, consistent with age, use and long term storage in an outdoor (shed) environment.  This includes quite a bit of oxidation to the nickel plating on the bells.  What was once bright is now dull and worn, with green speckled verdigris.  The steel hanging bracket has some slight curves (bending) from previous use and handling.  Much of the original black paint on the bracket is also worn away and there is some surface rust in areas as well as the remnants of a sticker or label of some kind.  The clappers are all intact but do have some minor surface rust, as shown.  The bells still ring loudly and beautifully and have that old, familiar sound.
