Selected Essays of William Carlos Williams
1954
For more than thirty years William Carlos Williams has been tirelessly defending and promoting the best in modern literature and art.  He has contributed widely to the leading literary magazines of our time, written introductions to important works, and read critical papers at many of our universities.

This stimulating collection of his finest critical and evaluative work includes essays, addresses, prefaces and reviews on a wide variety of subjects.  Much of this book concerns poetry and poets--T. S. Eliot, Dylan Thomas, Karl Shapiro, Ezra Pound, Marianne Moore, e. e. cummings, Carl Sandberg, Robert Lowell and many others.

Then, too, Dr. Williams speaks of painters and painting, of music and literature, and of the creative artists he knows so well.  There are essays on James Joyce, Shakespeare's plays, Federico Garcia Lorca, the basis of faith in art, the American Revolution, H. L. Mencken's The American Language, Ford Maddox Ford, American primitive painters, Antheil's music, and the work of Gertrude Stein.
