Early 20th century set of industrial brass stencils in original wooden storage box along with ink block and stippling brush.
Included are 76 interlocking stencils including the full uppercase alphabet, many with doubles and triples, punctuation dots, symbols, spacers and all numbers except 8.
The brass stencils look to have been kept quite clean. Light scratches, ink stains and patination but clean to touch.
Within an old tin is the gorgeous brush, in excellent, used condition stamped ‘AWG Pure Bristles’ as well as the black ink block, well used and hardened.
The stencil storage box is a lovely old thing, strong and well made with loads of vintage character.
My research suggests A.W.G is often associated with military equipment often stamped on field gear, ammunition crates and tools. I assume it is the abbreviated name of a contracted commercial manufacturer which seems to fit as these stencils look just like labels one would see stamped on military boxes.
I’ve provided lots of photos for a clear and honest description.
