Antique Chinese lacquered wedding basket or tiered food carrier featuring hand-painted lotus flowers, foliage and birds over a gold-tone gilt ground.

Traditional Chinese wedding baskets of this type were used for carrying food, sweets, fruit, gifts and other items during wedding celebrations and special occasions.

The basket features a wooden carrying handle, removable split lid, stacked/tiered construction and metal reinforcing bands around the body.

Measures approximately 12.75" x 14.375" x 21.5" overall.

Shows scratches, discoloration, staining, dirtiness, missing and worn painted/gilt finish, small nicks and chips, surface wear, and other signs of age and previous use. The metal reinforcing bands show bends, tarnishing, oxidation and other wear. There is additional wear to the wood, edges, interior and painted decoration throughout.
