This is an authentic example of the classic 19th-century military short sword known as the Briquet. Originally made famous by Napoleon’s Gran Armée, this model became the standard sidearm for infantry and artillery units across Europe and the Americas throughout the 1800s.
The hilt is cast in solid brass, featuring the iconic one-piece construction with a ribbed grip for a secure hold and a traditional D-guard ending in a recurved quillon. The brass has aged beautifully, displaying a dark, uncleaned golden-brown patina.
The short, curved steel blade is a hallmark of this design, built for durability in close-quarters combat. The metal surface shows a deep historical grey patina with natural oxidation and pitting, which serves as a testament to its age and authentic military service.
