Milch was a highly decorated German Air Force commander in WW2.

Milch, before the Third Reich, was Managing Director of the newly formed Luft Hansa Airlines, was made State Secretary and Inspector General of the Luftwaffe.  Historians regard him as the one person responsible for the build up of the German Air Force into a world class organization, even tho his mother may have been Jewish.  After the War broke out, Milch was made Commander of the Luftwaffe 5th Air Wing which was successful in the Invasion of Norway. Thereafter, he continued in the administration of the Luftwaffe.

On May 4 1945, he was captured and British Brigadier Derek Mills-Roberts, who had seen the horrors of Bergen Belsen Concentration Camp. when confronted with Milch grabed a champaigne bottle and broke over Milch's head, fracturing Milch's skull.

Because of his War military successes, Milch was awarded the Luftwaffe Pilot Observers Badge in Gold, the Honour Clasp to the Iron Cross First and Second Class, many international awards and the Iron Cross First and Second Class.

Milch was also awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross on May 4 1940!  And made a 5 Star General...Generalfeldmarschall!

The War vintage Heinrich Hoffmann postcard photograph shows Milch as Generalfeldmarschall wearing his Knights Cross and he has signed his name on the lower portion in black pencil.  The signed foto is in very good condition.  I purchased this signed foto from Todd Mueller Autograph Auctions sometime ago.  Along with a modern, internet, unsigned print of Milch(right) at a 3rd Reich dinner for American Colonel Charles Lindberg, and another of him with Der Reichsmarschall Goering. Total: 3 items
