Japanese Lacquer Suzuribako (Writing Box) — Gentian Maki-e by Sobei III, Two-Tier with Drawer, Unused with Signed Box
A suzuribako (traditional writing/stationery box) by the lacquer artist Sobei III, from the "Sanyaso" (wild mountain flowers) maki-e series. The lid carries a delicate gentian (rindo) flower maki-e design on a calm lacquer ground. Two-tier construction with a drawer - also useful as a document box, jewelry or keepsake box. Comes with the original signed storage box (tomobako) and the maker's explanatory leaflet. Unused old stock from long-term storage. The box itself is clean and beautiful; the outer storage box shows soiling and an aged appearance from storage.
