A stylish vintage combination letter opener and concealed tape measure by Dunhill, c.1960-70.

The stainless steel letter opener is marked "Rostfrei" (rust-free) and "Jasper", with a concealed retractable tape measure housed within the handle. The metal tape, also stamped "Jasper", is graduated in centimetres on one side and inches on the other, extending to 90 cm (36 inches).

The rectangular handle is inset with genuine brown leather panels to both sides, matching the original stitched leather sleeve embossed "Dunhill Germany".

This piece illustrates the mid-century practice of luxury retailers collaborating with specialist manufacturers. The letter opener and tape measure are both marked "Jasper", whilst the original leather sleeve is embossed "Dunhill Germany", suggesting that Jasper manufactured the mechanical components for retail under the Dunhill brand.
