SOME HISTORICAL NOTES:  

Barnard, George was a printer in St. Louis MO. He was born in 1846.  He attended school until the beginning of the Civil War, then entered a printing office to learn the basics of the business and carrying a newspaper route.  In 1863, he changed his occupation briefly but returned to the printing office within a year.  Here he busied himself with the orders and from 1864 to 1872 traveled as a soliciter in this line.  His acquaintance and business connection became broad based.  He began his own business in 1872.   The google books noted a large line of their work was in making blank books.  He was one of the original members of the Typothetae (master printers) of St. Louis and was a delegate to the conventions of the United Typothetae and member of the executive committee.  

The history of the united Typothetae of America, the international association of master-printers of the united States and Canada has been determined in many important phases by the characteristics of the industry it serves.  The organization celebrated the highest level of the craft and was more concerned about the printing craft than the manufacturing and marketing aspects of the printing business. 

Condition: It has normal letter folds, and both items are in good condition. 

The approximate size of each letterhead is 8 1/2" x 11" see all photos for detail lithography.
