It shows a full-length portrait of a woman, identified on the reverse as Miss Betty Stark of Halifax, Yorkshire, posing by an outdoor swimming pool. She is wearing a light-coloured two-piece swimsuit and white wedge-heeled sandals, smiling at the camera with her hands behind her back. She stands on the edge of the pool, and in the background, spectators are seated in a covered gallery area. The reverse has several handwritten pencil annotations which identify the subject as "Miss Betty Stark of Halifax Yorks." and as the "Winner of Morecambe Bathing Beauty Contest at Morecambe". Another note reads "Winner Bathing Beauty Contest 1948". A purple ink stamp is dated "9 Jul 1948" and reads "Manchester Sunday Dispatch Copyright". Another stamp reads "Portraits LP439".
