Antique WMF Art Nouveau Silver Plated Jewelry Box / Casket (c. 1900s)
An authentic German Jugendstil / Art Nouveau silver-plated jewelry casket by the renowned manufacturer WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik).
This model features beautiful relief floral and organic motifs, characteristic of the period. It comes with its original interior silk velvet lining framed by a two-tone decorative cord trim—a rare feature to find intact in pieces of this age.
Maker / Marks: Stamped on the underside with the classic WMF ostrich hallmark, along with technical silver-plating marks I/O (standard silver plating thickness) and OX (Oxidiert - factory oxidized finish to highlight the reliefs).
CONDITION REPORT: Silver Plating & Metal: Original antique condition. Shows visible surface wear and rubbing to the silver plating, revealing the underlying metal base tone (Britannia metal) and natural patina consistent with over 100 years of age. Hinge & Lid Closure: The hinge has minor age-related play/wear. As a result, the lid sits with a slight gap/misalignment on the left side and does not close completely flush naturally (please see photos). Interior Lining: The original silk velvet lining is remarkably well-preserved for its age, though it shows light rub marks, mild discoloration, and minor surface wear due to use and time. Please review all high-resolution photos carefully as they form part of the condition description.
