antique Italian Sorrento Ware marquetry Book Stand
A very rare expanding Sorrento ware book stand. With slide out panels to either side.
This antique Italian Sorrento Ware wood marquetry book stand from the 19th century showcases the craftsmanship and elegance of Italian design.
Made primarily from olive wood, with intricate piercing and marquetry detailing in a mix of woods including Harewood.
Although perfectly usable as it is now, it would greatly benefit from restoration after which it's value would be hugely increased. Unfortunately I do not have the opportunity to do so myself.
The present condition is fair, with several pieces of the Marquetry missing as shown and a long drying out split to the upper right.
It operates by first unfolding the hinged lower strip forwards, then lifting and supporting using the hinged leg. The side panels are withdrawn as required.
Measures 32 cm wide when closed and 46 cm when fully open
