Lithograph printed in grey/black ink on handmade 'Somerset' cream wove paper. In a light oak frame with conservation mount and backing.

P. J. Crook MBE, RWA, FRSA (b.1945)

British figure painter and printmaker.

Pam Crook was born in Cheltenham, and was married to another painter, Richard Parker. She studied at the Gloucestershire College of Art, 1960–5. Showed at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition from 1978, Royal West of England Academy and John Player Portrait Award Exhibition at National Portrait Gallery, 1986. She has had a series of solo shows at Portal Gallery from 1980, in 1986 and 1995 at Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum, which holds her work, and from where a retrospective toured in 1996. Westminster Cathedral, Tewkesbury Abbey and the parish church in Bishop’s Cleeve, Gloucestershire, where she lived, also hold examples. Crook’s figurative works had a slightly Surrealist, haunting quality and were unusual in that the image spilled from the canvas on to the wooden frame.
