For sale: an original 1814 satirical medal, "Inseparable Friends to Elba", mocking Napoleon Bonaparte.
In used condition.
This political satirical medal was issued following Napoleon's abdication and exile to the island of Elba in 1814.
Material: Bronze
Diameter: 25 mm
Engraver/Designer: Thomas Kettle
Date: 1814
Depicts Napoleon Bonaparte riding backwards on a donkey (or mule), facing left. The animal is led by a horned devil with goat's legs, holding a halter. The devil carries a rope over his shoulder, which is attached as a collar around Napoleon's neck.
Inscription:

Within a toothed border, the medal bears the following inscription in ten lines:
