About the Item

A magnificent and highly collectible piece of late 19th-century American horological history. This antique Victorian pocket watch chain was produced by the legendary manufacturers Bates & Bacon of Attleboro, Massachusetts. Designed as an elite vest-line or pocket chatelaine clip, the yellow gold-finished top assembly features a secure, spring-loaded hinged clip accented by elegant repoussé Art Nouveau organic scroll styling. The reverse of the top assembly holds an exceptional, elongated hexagonal plaque beautifully hand-monogrammed in a crisp, scrolling period script reading "M.K." Suspended from the ornate top frame are four perfectly matched, fluid rows of fine curb link chain that connect down to a decorative bottom scroll frame holding a beautifully cast watch fob seal desk matrix. Running alongside the main drop is a secondary long anchor lead chain terminated with its original swivel dog-clip clasp to attach securely to your antique pocket watch stem. The dog-clip clasp mechanism features the authentic, stamped "BATES & BACON" maker's hallmark. This rare signed accessory is an exceptional addition to any serious antique watch or chatelaine collection.
