A rare 1802 soft ground etching of a cottage and trees by William Frederick Wells (1764–1834) after a drawing by the British master, Thomas Gainsborough (1727–1788). This plate was re-issued by Boydell in 1819, but the reprint had a descriptive line of text below the image, so this impression is from the first edition.

To the platemark, it measures 12 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches, sheet size is approx. 15 x 12 inches. It is printed in black ink on cream wove paper. Paper shows expected age toning, minor surface grime and a small ink spatter in the right margin, otherwise excellent condition.
