Model: Day Date Case: Stainless Steel (Gold Plated) Strap: Leather Crystal: Acrylic (Cyclops) Movement: Automatic 17 Jewels Size: 36mm Year: Period believed to be 1970’s
You would at first glance think you were looking at a different brands watch made famous with the cyclops lens. However, this is a Sicura that became Breitling in later Years. Using a 17 Jewel automatic movement with day at 12 o’clock and date at 3 o’clock. It has all the looks of the other brand version but without the cost!
Condition: For its period it’s quite good. Originally purchased as a stainless steel with gold bezel. The whole case was cleaned and then gold plated using genuine 18k gold. I just felt this was more classy and the gold dial deserved it. The original strap was unfortunately missing and the one fitted was terrible so this has been replaced with a generic leather strap and I am also including a third party gold toned metal strap as shown. Both straps are classy. The case does have dings from use but unless looking really close, you wouldn’t know. Some of the finishes are not perfect but again unless looking close you wouldn’t know. The bezel is good and has been polished so does reflect light well. The dial is good with minimal marks, the hands do have some tarnishing. The second hand sweeps with the automatic movement. The acrylic crystal is clear but there is some crazing near the bottom, only visible if looking close and at a certain angle and a small dent.
The case back has also been plated in gold.
The movement is working well. It’s not up to todays standards in time keeping but it is OK. These movements do need to be worn as the power reserve is low. I have had this on my winder since buying and only needs slight adjustment.
The date and day functions work. Note this movement is fiddly when changing. Ideally the watch is best kept on a winder so the adjustment for Month end periods is easier.
