Sterling silver & enamel sweetheart brooch or badge from The H.M.S Cumberland.

Hallmarked from Birmingham in 1916 with the makers mark being that of Thomas Fattorini.

In excellent order with enamel all intact, very slight loss of the gilt finish on the reverse side.

Measures 34mm top to bottom.

The H.M.S Cumberland was a Monmouth-class armored cruiser HMS Cumberland, which was in active service from 1904 to 1920.

Launched in 1902 and completed in December 1904, she served continuously through World War I until paying off in April 1920.

At the outbreak of the war, she was deployed to the West Coast of Africa. In late 1914, she famously captured ten German merchant ships in the port of Douala, Cameroon. By 1916, she had transitioned to the 6th Cruiser Squadron, executing vital Atlantic Ocean convoy escort duties to secure trade routes against German surface raiders and U-boats.

Both right before and shortly after the war, she was highly notable for serving as a naval cadet training ship.
