Writeup from MB 112: Northwest Africa 15662 (NWA 15662) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2022 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3) History: Purchased by Matthew Stream and Craig Zlimen from an Algerian meteorite dealer in 2022. Physical characteristics: Forty matching stones, reddish brown weathered exterior, some pieces have patches of smooth fusion crust while others lack fusion crust entirely. Saw-cut surface reveals densely packed large chondrules some up to 4 mm in diameter. Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) Reflected light microscopy and electron microprobe examination of a polished mount shows numerous unequilibrated chondrules, many are porphyritic with glass or mesostasis. Some chondrules are decorated with troilite grains. Kamacite and taenite detected. | |||||
