| Writeup | Northwest Africa 15104 (NWA 15104) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6) History: Purchased by John Humphries from Mostafa Hnini in Morocco on September 30, 2021. Physical characteristics: Three identical appearing pieces: 16215 grams, 9251 grams, and 10543 grams. Sand blasted exteriors, dark coloration, some surfaces have an orange-brown patina. Saw cut reveals scattered faint chondrules set in a dark and light brown groundmass. Bright metal/sulfide grains are present throughout. Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) Microprobe analysis and reflected light microscopy reveal relict recrystallized chondrules, recrystallized groundmass, and ubiquitous metal and sulfide, some of which is very finely disseminated. Plagioclase grain size up to ~150 μm in diameter. Geochemistry: (A. Ross, UNM) Olivine Fa24.6±0.2, Fe/Mn=49±2, n=10; low-Ca pyroxene Fs20.7±0.3Wo1.6±0.2, Mn/Fe=29±1, n=6. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6) Specimens: 31.9 g on deposit at UNM, John Humphries holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
