Up for sale is a Zenith Royal 265 six transistor radio. Made in 1962, it features vernier (geared) tuning and has been recapped, cleaned and restored. It is a surprisingly strong receiver, picking up stations across the northeast part of the country, including Nashville (WSM 650), Chicago (WGN 720, WBBM 780, WLS 890, and WMVP 1000), Toronto (CFZM 740), Macon, GA (WSB 750), and Des Moines, IA (WHO 1040) after sunset from my home in suburban Cleveland.
This set is in very good cosmetic condition, with a new faceplate and steel three-position stand. The battery compartment is clean with no corrosion. The inside of the set is very clean. See photos. There are no cracks or chips, rare for a fifty-five year old plastic case. The small badge originating with the set is missing, however, I will include a badge from a similar radio that you can attach if you choose. Everything works, including the earphone jack.
When I opened the set to repair it, I found sandwiched between the antenna and the top of the inside of the case a small cardboard tag folded up. It is the Zenith inspector’s certification that the radio was “checked and tested” for “performance and quality”. I’ve never seen one of these before, and I think it would add to any display. I will also include the old capacitors and four new AA batteries. Thanks for looking.
