Antique Grand Tour Roman Hildesheim Treasure Minerva / Athena Bowl 

This is a Victorian spelter low footed bowl modelled after the celebrated Minerva Bowl from the Hildesheim Treasure, the important group of Roman silver vessels discovered in Germany during the 19th century.

The central high relief depicts Minerva, or Athena, seated in flowing classical robes, wearing a plumed helmet and accompanied by her shield with her owl to the left. The scene is enclosed within a beaded border, surrounded by a broad rim decorated with repeated classical palmettes. 

CONDITION there has been an old repair to the foot, the metal is oxidised with traces of gilding visible beneath - as per images

The overall condition is as you would expect from an object of substantial age that has been displayed/handled/used, usually over the lifetimes of several owners.
