Classic lenses of the past often possessed a pleasing character, even if their technical specifications were modest. The Nokton Classic was newly designed with a focus on this "lens character," deliberately eschewing aspherical elements. It is a lens crafted with a commitment to the beauty of the final image rather than just numerical performance metrics.
The Nokton Classic offers a rendering style distinct from modern lenses, which tend to be sharp and high-contrast even at maximum aperture. By intentionally retaining a moderate amount of aberration, it delivers a soft look at wide-open apertures and razor-sharp definition when stopped down. Its appeal lies in the ability to control this dual nature—switching between these characteristics—simply by adjusting the aperture setting.
● Large aperture, compact design
It features a 40mm focal length—a versatile angle of view for semi-wide-angle or standard use that demands high mobility. Despite its fast F1.4 aperture, the lens measures just 29.7mm in length and weighs 175g, achieving a compact design ideal for carrying with you at all times.

● VM mount
Uses the bayonet-style VM mount. It is compatible not only with the Bessa series (excluding the Bessa L) but also with M-mount cameras.
● Optional slotted lens hood
A dedicated lens hood is also available. It features a large diameter for effective light shielding, along with slits designed to minimize viewfinder blockage (vignetting).
