KATO 10-1817 N700 Series 2000 Shinkansen 8-Car Basic Set (N-Gauge)
Overview
A finished N-gauge (1/160 scale) model prototyped on the current appearance of the 2000 series (known as the X formation, "small A") — N700 series trains (the Z formation) that long served as the mainstay on the Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen, modified to incorporate braking functions equivalent to the N700A. It precisely reproduces the distinctive design with a small "A" added beside the "N700" logo on the sides.
Key Specifications
- Prototype: JR Central X65 formation
- Slotless motor: strong magnetic force for extremely smooth, quiet running from low speeds.
- Car-tilting system: KATO's own mechanism reproduces the body leaning inward on curves, just like the real train.
- Full-circumference gangway between cars reproduced, for a unified, realistic look at the coupling faces.
- Clear logos and markings: the "N700A" side logo, car numbers, no-smoking marks, and warning markings all printed.
- Lights: headlights (warm-white LED) and tail lights (red LED) illuminate.
- Destination display printed: sides come standard with "Nozomi No. 3 for Hakata."
- Couplers: diaphragm couplers (inter-car couplers).

Expansion & Options (sold separately)
- Full 16-car formation: combine with the separately sold "10-1818 8-car add-on set" to recreate the prototype's 16-car formation.
- Interior lighting: KATO's genuine option "LED Interior Lighting Clear" (11-211 / 11-212) fits all cars.
