The front features a humorous beach scene with a boy showing a patched pair of trousers while a sailboat with "NEW HOME" on its sail approaches offshore. The caption reads:

"Sister—'What are the WILD WAVES saying?'

Brother—'This PATCH was put on by THE LIGHT RUNNING NEW HOME SEWING MACHINE.'"

The reverse advertises Mrs. B. A. Stearns' Improved System of Dress Cutting, offered through the New Home Sewing Machine Co. at 409 Washington Street, Boston, Massachusetts. This dual-purpose advertising card is a desirable example of late 19th-century sewing and fashion ephemera.
