Blue one second, purple the next, then it flashes magenta and you start wondering if you imagined the whole thing. Dual personality, kind of like me, but let's not go there. It's built on that classic SG double-cut shape, the one that's been showing up on stages since the late 60s, except nobody ever sprayed a colorshifting pearl finish on it before. The horns still have that same bite, that same "don't mess with me" attitude, but now it changes its mood depending on where you're standing. Try to catch it in one color. I dare you.
Frank Brothers built this one out of genuine mahogany top to back, neck included, so it's got that warm, woody thump doing the heavy lifting under the hood. Mahogany doesn't shout, it leans in, gives you a rounder low end and a midrange that feels like it's already broken in. The Classic Med. C neck carve fills your hand without feeling like a baseball bat, and the macassar ebony board is slick and fast, the kind of wood that makes bends feel like they cost you nothing.
Two FBGC V.O. humbuckers are doing the talking here, and they talk in full sentences. Clean, they've got that chimey, slightly vintage-voiced sparkle. Push some gain in and they turn mean fast, the kind of mean that works for classic rock, garage, blues-rock, whatever needs a little dirt on it.
This finish messes with me every time I see it.
