In SOT-23 format, pre-soldered to a custom THT Adapter Board
These adapted J201s are guaranteed authentic Fairchild/Onsemi JFETs, sourced from a major US-based supplier. The SOT23 chips are pre-soldered to a custom PCB that allows them to be used in assemblies/builds that are designed for discrete (TO-92 style) components.
There are several advantages these adapted J201s offer over their conventional TO-92 counterparts:
- Price: the TO92 J201 is no longer manufactured and genuine TO-92 J201s are hard to source and expensive - with genuine ones typically selling for two to three times the price of these adapted J201s.
- Availability: The MMBFJ201 variant is still in production, so supplies will continue to be available.
- Authenticity: The market has been flooded with fake (TO-92 format) J201s so it's hard to be sure what you're getting. However we source these MMBFJ201 chips from a major US-based reputable supplier, so we are assured they are of original and genuine Fairchild/onsemi manufacture.
- Consistency: We've found the MMBFJ201 variant to be considerably more consistent than the older TO-92 product, making them useable, reliable and dependable in a wider range of applications. However they are still very much recognisable as J201s in sound, behaviour and performance.
- Pre-tested: we individually check each of these on a component tester after soldering it to the custom adapter PCB, so you can buy with confidence.
Size and Compatibility with TO92 Applications
The adapter PCBs we have used for this item are a compact 8.1mm (W) x 8.3mm (H) x 1.6mm (D). With the MMBFJ201 chip attached, they measure approximately 2.5mm deep. The pin/wire connection holes are standard spaced 2.54mm apart. They are supplied without header oins, as pictured
In one or other of these formats, the adapted J201s will be suitable for use in most applications were a TO-92 J201 would be used.
