Black Spinel Necklace 

This necklace was designed using tiny 4mm and 2mm Black Spinel gemstones, 11/0 Miyuki galvanised silver seed beads, and a 925 sterling silver toggle clasp.  It is approximately 17 inches in length.

The gemstones I use are ethically sourced and hand-cut, so there may be slight differences in colour, size and inclusions within each stone.

Spinel is a gemstone whose name is believed to originate from the Latin word ‘Spina’, meaning ‘thorn’, alluding to its crystal formation.  Pure Spinel is white, but the most popular colour is red, as seen in the English Crown Jewels.  It can also be found in black, green, blue, brown and purple.  

Due to the magnetic mineral Magnetite contained within this gemstone, throughout history, it was believed to help mariners with their navigation.  It has a glasslike transparency and a beautiful bright sparkle.
