Late Victorian • 8-Day Timepiece • Original Enamel Dial
A late Victorian French carriage clock in a gilt brass case, with an unusual and elegant original carry handle, bevelled glass panels and an original enamel dial with Roman numerals. This is an 8-day timepiece movement, with no strike or chime.
Restoration here has focused on originality rather than over-restoration. The warm gilt finish has been sympathetically cleaned and preserved rather than re-plated, keeping the rich, mellow appearance expected of a genuine nineteenth-century case.
The movement has been fully dismantled, ultrasonically cleaned, inspected and reassembled, with Novostar oil applied to the mainspring and synthetic clock oil to the pivots, before extensive testing to confirm reliable timekeeping.
| Height (including handle) | 14.5 cm / 5.7 in |
| Width | 8 cm / 3.1 in |
| Depth | 6.5 cm / 2.6 in |
Very good antique condition overall, with the case presenting well and only light signs of age. The original enamel dial has some historic hairlines and small areas of loss, left untouched to preserve authenticity; please refer to the photographs for the full extent. The movement is clean, fully serviced and running well.
