Enfield was one of Britain's best-loved clock manufacturers of the twentieth century, producing reliable mechanical clocks for homes across the country. Their movements are robust, practical and well regarded today — this example carries the classic Enfield qualities: solid English engineering, a warm wooden case and a satisfying gong strike.
Powered by an original Enfield 8-day mechanical twin-train movement, stamped ENFIELD, England. It strikes the hours on a coil gong, is wound by key and only needs winding once a week.
A full mechanical service from a clockmaker typically costs £80–£150. Here it's already been done — so you're getting a working clock, not a future project.
The walnut case presents attractively and has genuine presence on display. As an honest vintage piece, it does show age-related wear — including veneer wear and some loss to the front right-hand side, and general cosmetic marks consistent with a life well lived.
The front bezel door closes, with a slightly loose latch. The chrome bezel shows age-related wear. The dial and hands present well and retain strong period character.
