Group Captain Frank Reginald Carey CBE DFC** AFC DFM
World War II fighter ace with 25 victories, three shared destroyed, four unconfirmed destroyed, four probables and eight damaged. Carey was the second-highest scoring Hawker Hurricane fighter ace of the war.
Sergeant F.R. Carey, No.43 Squadron at Tangmere until April 1940. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal on the
1st March 1940 and commissioned. Then with No.3 Squadron at Kenley from April 1940, in France to return wounded early June 1940. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bar both on the 31st May 1940.
