Often compared to The Catcher in the Rye for its portrait of youthful longing, it remains one of the defining Canadian coming-of-age novels.
This is the first Bantam paperback printing, December 1971, reprinting the complete text of the 1963 Viking Press first edition. Published before Cohen's international fame as a singer-songwriter had fully taken hold, this edition markets him as "the brilliant young Canadian poet, novelist, troubadour."
