This piece is an iron tsuba featuring an openwork design depicting 'Musubi-Karigane' (bound wild geese) and haze.
It features a bamboo-joint rim decorated with arabesque gold inlay.
Likely a presentation tsuba (Kenjo-tsuba) by the Shoami school dating from the Azuchi-Momoyama to early Edo period,
it serves as both a practical handguard for combat and an aesthetic piece for appreciation.
Forged from iron, it is thick and retains a sense of profound weightiness despite its openwork design.
Furthermore, it was considered proper etiquette at the time to leave presentation tsuba unsigned.
