Vintage 1950s Jefferson Golden Hour Electric Mystery Clock - Model 580-101 - Working!

This iconic mid-century modern “mystery” clock by Jefferson Electric Company of Bellwood, Illinois, is a true classic from the early 1950s. Introduced in late 1949 (Catalog No. 580-101), the Golden Hour was Jefferson’s most popular model and remained in production with minimal changes for over 40 years. Approximately two million were sold. It’s instantly recognizable for its elegant, floating-hands illusion that fascinated collectors for decades. 

Key Features:

• Timeless Art Deco / Mid-Century Design: Polished gold-tone metal frame and base with a clean circular dial. The hour and minute hands appear to magically “float” in the center with no visible mechanism from the front — the secret is in the rotating glass disc driven by the motor in the base.

• Original Markings: Clear red base plate with embossed “Jefferson Golden Hour electric clock,” Jefferson Electric Company, Bellwood, Illinois. Cat. No. 580-101, Patent No. 2642715, 115V A.C. 60 CY Only, 2.5 Watts, UL listed. Handwritten date “2/8/54” on the back (consistent with 1950s production). 

• Condition: Excellent vintage condition with nice original gold finish (no heavy polishing or over-cleaning noted). Light wear consistent with age, including minor surface marks on the base and some patina. The clock runs accurately and keeps good time. Sold as-is due to its age, as is standard for vintage electrics.

• Dimensions: Approximately 9” tall (standard for this model).

• Power: Standard 115V AC household plug (cord included and shown in photos).
