This exceptional piece features a highly detailed, removable lid depicting a seated chief or king sheltered beneath a traditional ceremonial umbrella, surrounded by a royal court of six musicians playing various traditional instruments. The craftsmanship highlights the famous lost-wax casting method traditional to West African metalwork.
The body of the vessel is heavily decorated with geometric engravings, textured wavy bands, and two ornate, ladder-style handles accented with small sculpted figures. The urn rests on an openwork, looped pedestal base. The interior displays a beautiful, authentic green oxidized verdigris patina, confirming its age and traditional material composition.
