A delightful vintage Il Quadrifoglio teddy bear cookie jar, beautifully hand painted in Italy during the 1970s. This charming ceramic storage jar features a smiling teddy bear wearing a red gingham check apron with hand-painted blue floral decoration. The bear's head lifts off to form the lid, making it both a practical biscuit or cookie jar and a wonderful decorative display piece.
Standing an impressive 32.5cm tall, this is a substantial example with lovely proportions and a real country kitchen feel. Italian pottery from Il Quadrifoglio is well regarded for its colourful hand-painted folk-art styling, and this teddy bear design is one of the more characterful examples.
This example remains in outstanding vintage condition. The colours are exceptionally bright and glossy throughout, with no chips, cracks or repairs. The interior is extremely clean and appears to have seen little, if any, practical use.
There is a neatly finished section around part of the rim where a small amount of excess glaze was removed during manufacture to ensure the lid sits correctly. This is a factory finishing characteristic, not damage or restoration.
