Antique French Blue & White Spiral Porcelain Pitcher Jug, Possibly Bayeux, Early 20th C

Elegant antique French porcelain or fine earthenware pitcher decorated with a striking hand-painted cobalt blue spiral motif on a white glazed body. Its graceful baluster form, flared pouring spout and curved handle reflect traditional French ceramic craftsmanship.

The pitcher is possibly attributable to the Bayeux manufacture, based on its decorative style and overall design, although this attribution cannot be confirmed from the available mark. The underside bears a blue hand-painted factory mark, partially obscured by an old label.

Description

Élégant petit pichet ancien en porcelaine ou faïence fine française, décoré d'un motif spiralé peint à la main en bleu cobalt sur fond blanc émaillé. Sa silhouette galbée, son bec verseur évasé et sa large anse témoignent d'un savoir-faire traditionnel.

Par son décor et sa forme, cette pièce est possiblement attribuable à la manufacture de Bayeux, sans qu'il soit possible de le confirmer avec certitude au vu du cachet, partiellement masqué par une ancienne étiquette. Le dessous présente une marque peinte en bleu sous couverte.
