Very cool old vintage, looks like 1930's thru 50's styling, of a textured embossed metal buckle jeweled with jade green talons. The green material looks like a bakelite but it does not test positive with Simichrome, it could be coated which would prevent a positive result. I wondered if it was jade, or it's another type of early dense opaque jade looking plastic. Either way is a very cool buckle. Could be used as a clasp of some sort or possibly a ribbon choker, among other things. No markings on the metal work at all. Back side of metal has not oxidized as much as top side. I'm sure there must be others out there like this but I didn't find any. This is a mystery piece to me so use your own knowledge and observation in identifying it.
Very Good pre-owned vintage condition, age appropriate darkened patina on metalwork. Green claw elements in beautiful condition with no chips, cracks, scuffing or dullness. In one close up pic you can see a tiny nick in a green end tucked into the setting but it is not obvious when viewing normally. They did not test positive for Bakelite with Simichrome but it could be coated which would prohibit a positive read. Possibly jade or another early jewelry plastic. Great old buckle, wondering if it could be used as a choker. I have not cleaned this and will leave that to new owner as desired. One likely doesn't want to clean off all of the metal patina.
Measures approx. 3-3/4" long overall x 1-1/2" wide, holder for belting or ribbon approx. 1-1/4" at widest.
