Key-Notes of American Liberty; Comprising the Most Important Speeches, Proclamations, and Acts of Congress, from the Foundation of the Government to the Present Time. With a History of the Flag, by a Distinguished Historian.

New York: E. B. Treat & Co.; Chicago: R. C. Treat and C. W. Lilley. [1866]. 12mo, 7½ inches. Original red cloth, spine gilt-stamped with flag device and title. 273 pp. See Condition Notes.

Condition: Fair. This copy lacks the chromolithographed color title page and the Washington frontispiece present in all other examined copies. No stub or tearing visible — likely a binding error rather than removal. Cloth worn and spotted; spine faded, head frayed, corners rubbed; rear board unevenly faded. Endpapers wrinkled and cockled with old dried adhesive. One signature nearly loose but holding. Light foxing to preliminaries; text generally clean.

Significance: A post–Civil War patriotic compilation gathering the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, Washington's Farewell Address, the Monroe Doctrine, the Dred Scott Decision, and Lincoln's Inaugural Addresses, among other foundational documents and state papers.
