Very well painted original oil by the listed artist Malcolm Fryer (1937 - 2023), painted circa 1995.

Depicting the soft watery sunlight of a winter's day shining through the leafless branches of Silver Birch trees. A fine, sensitive example of the artist's work.

Signed "Fryer" lower right. As he often did, Fryer has signed in the wet paint, then continued to paint over it, which makes the signature hard to see. I have included two photographs, lit from different angles to try and make it easier to see.

Malcolm Fryer  1937 - 2023

British landscape painter in oils and other media.

Malcolm Fryer was born in Manchester and studied at Lancaster College of Art. He lectured at Blackpool School of Art and was curator at the Haworth Art Gallery in Accrington. In the 1970s Fryer was appointed Warden of the Patrick Allen Frazer Art College in Arbroath, Scotland.

He has exhibited widely in both group and solo exhibitions.

Examples of his work are held in several public collections including at Leeds University, Haworth Art Gallery, Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery, Atkinson Art Gallery and Peter Scott Gallery. His work also appears in private collections at Granada, Sky Television and Arthur Guinness Ltd.

Malcolm Fryer died at Southport on 7th January 2023 aged 85, after a battle against cancer.
