Wonderful 1880s Victorian Aesthetic Movement Sterling Silver Picture Locket 14g

This is a wonderful, good size, unmarked silver picture locket suitable for a medium width silver neck chain. Tests confirm that it is a minimum of 925 for its sterling silver fineness. From pattern and technique, we date this example to the Aesthetic movement fashion; somewhere around the 1880s.

The locket is a generous oval shape with a decorative crenulated edge. The top cover is decorated with an embossed geometric trellis with infills of four leaves arranged in a lozenge pattern. The back cover is plain. It is hinged and opens like a book. The covers are deep and intended to hold images tucked into the inner edges. There is a bale and triangular jump ring at the top to thread onto a chain.

We have listed other collectable pieces, silver, and jewellery this week, please refer to our other listings.

The locket is in excellent antique condition, no issues, faults, or damage to report, some light wear and rub to the rear with a lovely warm patina. The images show the condition far better than we can detail, please study these carefully; they are part of the description and condition report.

Measures: locket excluding bale and jump ring 4.2cm x 3.3cm x 1cm thick; 14g.

We have listed several other pieces of jewellery, silver, decorative arts, and collectables. Please refer to our other listings, we combine postage costs to save you money.
