For bid is an original 1893 Chicago World’s Fair / World’s Columbian Exposition China plate by the L. S. & S. Company of Germany. Colorful souvenir plate featuring the “Machinery Hall” building at Chicago, Illinois. “Z4 1/8” is incised on the back with a stamp “L. S. & S. GERMANY.”
Colorful plate is about 8 inches across. Great design from the Victorian era. Important fair / expo held in Illinois to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus voyage of 1492.
Plate has some wear and very tiny dings. What looks like a crack appears to be UNDER the glaze on the back edge.
Great piece of 1893 fair history.
