A Good Quality Mid-Century Oil Painting

by Leslie Slape

'Self Portrait'

Signed and dated 1956.

A classic art school style Modern British MCM oil painting, confidently painted in thick and heavily worked oils onto a wooden panel / support.

This a somewhat imposing portrait with great presence, the expression suggesting a serious man intensely engaged in painting himself, face offset to one side, working from the mirror.

The olive coloured shirt and sober mood of this work perhaps suggest an army or military connection.

Bearing a period label verso for 'The Royal Institute Galleries, 195 Piccadilly, London, W.1

A good piece. Would look great framed up.

Dimensions:

Approx 55 x 46 cms.
The panel is 5mm thick.

Condition:

The support with some loss and chipping the edges. Loss to the top left (as shown in the close up). A few cracks running through the paint. Soiling and marking verso. Displays well.

Delivery:

All items are packed with care, to a high standard and sent via tracked and signed for courier.
