18th Century Swedish / Scandinavian Folk Art Carved Wood Harness Bow d.1777

This is a beautiful example of early Scandinavian folk art. Probably Swedish, carved & painted horse harness bow, dated 1777. These were decoratively carved by farmers & used for special occasions like weddings & festivals. Carved to the top with a double headed animal finial, possibly bears or wolves. The paintwork is original. Apart from being a ceremonial piece it is also a rather beautiful freestanding sculpture.

CONDITION in good order - as per images

The overall condition is as you would expect from an object of substantial age that has been displayed/handled/used, usually over the lifetimes of several owners.
