A rare Victorian vulcanite double sided opening chunky locket.
Undoubtedly a memorial locket of the late 19th century, possibly worn by a bereaved mother who had lost one or both of her children.
Both sides of the chunky case open on a hinge; to one half is a framed & glazed photo of a young boy, with a framed & glazed lock of his blonde hair. To the other is a framed and glazed photo of a young girl with an empty frame to other side (with a couple of residual strands of hair).
The vulcanite case is plain and undecorated and dark brown in colour. Complete with original vulcanite bail to top.
Measurements: 60mm drop length (from top of bail) by 40mm with a depth of 15mm.
Weight: 22.8gms.
