Wilcox Meriden Silver Plate Victorian Uranium Art Glass Insert Biscuit Jar GlowsAntique Uranium Satin Glass Biscuit Barrel Wilcox Silverplate Hand Painted Bird

Offered is a beautiful antique biscuit barrel featuring a hand-painted satin uranium glass insert housed in its original Wilcox Silver Plate Co. mount and lid (No. 2571, Meriden, Connecticut).

The satin blue glass body is decorated with a finely detailed hand-painted waterfowl in a woodland/winter landscape scene with gilt accents. Under UV light, the glass exhibits a strong bright green fluorescence consistent with uranium glass, creating a stunning display both in daylight and under blacklight.

Condition is excellent for its age. The glass is free of chips, cracks, and repairs.

Hand-painted decoration and gilding remain beautifully preserved. There are a few minor surface scuffs consistent with contact from the silverplate mount, as well as light interior shelf/usage marks typical of satin-finished glass. The silverplate mount and lid present very well, with only age-appropriate wear.

The glass insert is removable from the silverplate frame. The underside retains a crowned "R" mark and a polished pontil.

A wonderful example of late Victorian/early 20th-century decorative art glass that combines beautiful hand-painted artistry with the unique appeal of uranium glass.
