Rare Vintage Monmouth Rugby Football Club (Monmouth RFC) Commemorative Blazer Badge Circa 1948 (Celebrating the Club’s 75th Anniversary - Founded 1873)
This is a beautifully preserved, exceptionally rare piece of Welsh rugby heritage. This is a premium, vintage hand-embroidered blazer badge/pocket shield for Monmouth RFC, likely commissioned to celebrate the club's milestone 75th Anniversary in 1948.
The badge features the historic town seal of Monmouth—a medieval three-masted ship representing its port heritage on the Wye—surrounded by a yellow ribbon with blue lettering reading the Latin inscription: "SIGNVM NOVVM VILLE DE MONMOVTH" (The New Seal of the Town of Monmouth).
The initials "MRFC" are stitched at the base, with the celebratory "75" featured at the top.
Detailed gold bullion wire work with blue silk accents on a sharp, rich black felt backing.
Reverse: Features a traditional, high-end genuine leather backing with perimeter hand-stitching. This "pocket shield" construction was used by master tailors to prevent the heavy wire badge from warping the blazer pocket.
This item is in an excellent unworn condition. The felt is crisp with no moth damage or wear, and the bullion wire retains its brilliant lustre. It has never been sewn onto a garment (no needle holes or thread residue on the border). A great find for collectors of vintage British rugby memorabilia, Monmouthshire local history, or high-quality textile militaria and club insignia.
