 War Office Map

A large military map issued in 1952 by the then War Office ( which preceded the formation of the Ministry of Defence ) and is based upon the Ordnance Survey 1940 map, of LONDON NORTH EAST with the surrounding area.

These early military maps were not for general publication, being restricted to British military use only. They differ from the civilian ordnance survey edition in having additional overlay compass variations and grid markings, and usually some of the text redacted. They were instructed to be destroyed by the military when replaced with the later editions, so these earlier surviving maps are now becoming uncommon.

In generally fair folded condition with handling use, some yellowing of the paper through age and storage,
