Peter Max, "Peace on Earth" is a mixed media work on paper combining printed lithographic structure with hand-applied painting, characteristic of the artist's late-period studio production. The composition centers on the Statue of Liberty, rendered in saturated blues and layered tonal highlights, holding a torch beneath a hovering globe of the Earth. The surrounding field is densely populated with white star motifs against a deep blue ground, while the lower register incorporates an American flag rendered in bold horizontal stripes, anchoring the image in national iconography. Max's intervention through gestural brushwork and intensified color modulation overlays the printed base, producing a visible tension between mechanical reproduction and manual embellishment.

The work reflects Max's sustained engagement with themes of American identity, global symbolism, and utopian optimism, recurring motifs throughout his post-1960s practice. Executed as a mixed media composition, it combines a printed lithographic base with extensive hand-applied painting, in which the artist overlays gestural brushwork and heightened chromatic accents to animate and individualize the underlying image. The result is a layered visual structure in which mechanical reproduction and direct painterly intervention coexist, reinforcing Max's characteristic synthesis of Pop-derived imagery and expressive abstraction.

Signed "Max" on the front and accompanied by an original gallery label and certificate of authenticity, the piece is consistent with works produced and distributed through gallery channels during the late twentieth and early twenty-first century.

Please note that digital renderings and photographs may feature frames, plinths, or other display staging for illustrative purposes only. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, artwork is sold unframed and without display fixtures.
