Player Notes: I know… I know… Cooper Flagg is amazing… Kon Kneuppel is certainly elite from deep… but have you been paying attention down in The Big Easy? Because there is another elite rookie who made waves in the 2025/26 season. Let’s refresh… Derik is a 6’10” 250 Lb Center/Power Forward who was All-Big 10 as a freshman at Maryland in 2024/25. He averaged 17 points and 9 rebounds. He was drafted at pick 13 by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2025 NBA draft, but then New Orleans jumped into action, trading their 2025 & 2026 first round picks to get him. He started as a back-up with very limited minutes, but by the quarter point in the 2025/26 season, he had moved into the starting lineup. Not just that, but they started running the offense through him a little bit, à la Alperen Sengun and Nikola Jokic. It turns out he is a great facilitator. For the season he averaged 12 points, 7 rebounds (15th in the NBA) and 4 assists per game, and he did it on only 25 minutes per game He had two triple doubles. He is special… if This wasn’t the Cooper Flagg class…. Pay attention, you won’t be disappointed. He will be on my 2026/27 fantasy team.. that I can say for sure.
